Recap: Just One Switch 2 Game Was at SGF 2025

Well two, if you count Hitman. Here are all the games shown.

Greetings from San Francisco, where I’m watching Summer Game Fest remotely this year.

This is the first E3 / SGF I’ve missed since 2013 – pandemic notwithstanding – and it feels strange not to be in the middle of it. But it does mean that I can send along this SGF recap featuring all of the Switch games, which is actually a pretty short list.

Out of all the announcements in Geoff Keighley’s two-hour show, I counted exactly one Switch 2 logo – the previously-announced Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds. That’s not a bad get for the Switch 2, but it does feel strange in light of the console releasing just a couple weeks ago. It seems like most of the big Switch 2 announcements will be saved for whenever Nintendo holds its Direct, which is likely this month. Hopefully we’ll get confirmation of Stranger than Heaven – the new crime drama set in 1940s Japan by RGG Studio – which was my favorite reveal of the show by far.

Actually, scratch that, there was also the new Elusive Target for Hitman World of Assassination, which features Mads Mikkelsen reprising his role as Le Chiffre from Casino Royale. Hitman: World of Assassination is on Switch 2, so I guess this counts as a Switch announcement. Unfortunately, the port seems to have some stuttering issues, at least right now.

Outside of Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds and Hitman, here are all the other games shown during SGF that will be coming to Switch (and by extension, Switch 2) that I could see.

  • Scott Pilgrim EX: Paul Robertson, Bryan Lee O’Malley and Anamanaguchi reunite for the sequel to the classic beat-em-up, which will be developed by Tribute Games (the studio behind Shredder’s Revenge). If you haven’t watched the Netflix series yet, you should. It’s a great expansion of the Scott Pilgrim universe that rectifies some of the original stories more awkward character beats.

  • LEGO Voyagers: Okay, this game looks adorable. We have two little LEGO studs with eyes that are seemingly in love. Polygon calls it “It Takes Two, but make it LEGO and Annapurna.” Sounds about right.

  • Mina the Hollower: My other most anticipated game of SGF 2025. A demo is out now on Steam if you are so inclined, otherwise this delightful throwback to the Game Boy Color will be out October 31 on a variety of consoles, including Switch 2. Honestly, though, this is the kind of game that I want to play on my Analogue Pocket as much as anything.

  • Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree: A new roguelike by Bandai Namco, Towa looks a lot like Hades, but with a dash of Eastern mysticism. It didn’t really grab my attention – and it’ll face a lot of competition from Hades 2 – but it looks nice enough.

Expect more announcements from the various streams throughout the weekend, including the Wholesome Direct and Day of the Devs (which followed directly after SGF). I’ll highlight any notable announcements in this space. The next big stream is the Xbox Showcase on Sunday at 10am PT / 1pm ET, which I’ll be reacting to live on Twitch. I’ll also be recording my reax to SGF and more thoughts on Switch 2 alongside Nadia for the weekly recording of Blood God.

As for when the Nintendo Direct will be… we’ll just have to see.
